A Click-to-Layer App Icon Is Initially Blank/Generic When Played Back On Windows 8.x/2012/2012R2

Description

When attempting to playback a Click-to-Layer application on Windows Server 2012 or 201R2 machine, the application has a blank or generic white page icon, instead of the correct application icon.

Resolution

This issue caused by a default policy change in Windows 8.x, 2012 and 2012R2.  To resolve this issue, the following registry entry needs to be created on the machine you are attempting to playback on:

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

EnableShellShortcutIconRemotePath

REG_DWORD 1 

 

 

Onc created, reboot the machine and the correct default icon will now appear on playback.
