Antivirus slows logon while scanning of ProfileUnity Program Files and directories.

Product: ProfileUnity

Product Version: 6.5+

Expires on: 365 days from publish date

Updated: April 10, 2017

Problem:

Antivirus slows logon while scanning of ProfileUnity Program Files and directories.

Symptoms:

Slow logon, Slow logoff, 7z's are created very slowly on the users file share.

Resolution:

Exclude the following scripts and executables. A full list of these with paths is documented below.

For customers on older versions of ProfileUnity (Before 6.5), this KB might list additional executables which are not existing in your client tools directories. There is no harm adding them to your AV exclusion lists as it will benefit after the client tools get upgraded to newer version of ProfileUnity in the future.

ProfileUnity on network shares:

 \\<domainname>\netlogon\profileunity\:

Note: This is the current deployment path. If unsure, check the ProfileUnity console under Administration (top right)->ProfileUnity Tools->Deployment Path.

  • client.exe
  • ctxinit.exe
  • rdpinit.exe
  • userinit.exe
  • LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe
  • LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Logoff.exe
  • NDP452-KB2901907-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU.exe

User's home portability directory:

\\profileserver\profiles\%username%\Portability

Note: Typically this is created under a user's profile. Example:

Exclude: *.7z, *.lou, *.lbr *.vhd and *.manifest files located inside.

DIA software storage location for DIA applications:

\\server\share\DIAAPPS\

Exclude: *.vhd

ProfileUnity Client tools on local machine:

Temporary directory:

6.5+ Version of PU examples:

  • %temp%\proux2
  • %temp%\proux3

If %temp% opens C:\Users\%username%\Appdata\Local\Temp\1 than user hard pathway:

  • C:\Users\%username%\Appdata\Local\Temp\proux2
  • C:\Users\%username%\Appdata\Local\Temp\proux3

6.0 Version of PU:

%temp%\unttmp2:

Note: This directory and these files only exist during ProfileUnity execution

Note2: This directory can be redirected to a fixed location like C:\Temp using ProfileUnity ADM GPO template.
