Problem:

How do I run ProfileUnity without Group Policy?

Symptoms:

We would like to run ProfileUnity without Group Policies and on Persistent/Non-Persistent VDI

***A domain GPO is required for the logoff script portion if you require elevation on logoff!

Possible Resolution(s):

  1. Log on to the base image. Open an elevated command prompt and run LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe from the network share (usually  \\domain\NETLOGON\ProfileUnity\).

    Alternatively, you can right-click on LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Startup.exe and select 'Run as Admin'. This will download the necessary files to local image and modify the local userinit value.

    If you are not using ProfileUnity on the domain, copy the client tools from the web interface (hover in the top-right over your user name, Administration, Download Client Tools) to a local folder on the base image. Extract the client tools there and use those local paths for the rest of the setup process.

  2. Open gpedit.msc from an admin command prompt. Follow the instructions beginning on page 27 of the ProfileUnity Installation Guide (PDF), page 27. Make sure to point to the local copy of ProfileUnity for the startup and logoff scripts. If ProfileUnity is not on the network, you can copy the .ini file to the base image and point the INI File Path to a local path.

  3. Add users to a local ProfileUnity security group for licensing.
