Problem:

After Local Application Data's redirected location was changed/migrated to new location Adobe Acrobat Reader hangs while opening.

Symptoms:

Adobe Acrobat Reader XI

Local Application Data is redirected to %userprofile%\Profile-VHD

Adobe is hanging while launched or while opening a pdf document.

When opening adobe files “access denied” pop up comes up

Files with authentication open correctly just not files that may use a system account like TEMP directories.

Possible Resolution(s):

The Acrobat Reader's " Protected Mode" is enabled at startup.

Option A) Disable "Enable Protected Mode at startup" if possible. (Open Adobe, Edit, Preferences) on the "Gold/Master" image and recompose your pool.

Example:

EnableProtectedModeAtStartup.jpg

Option B) Disable Protected Mode setting using ProfileUnity "Registry" setting.

Open ProfileUnity Console, Edit configuration, Registry. "Add Registry Rule"

    • Action: Add Value
    • Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    • Key: SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\10.0\FeatureLockDown

Note: If Adobe Acrobat Version XI is used than use: (11.0)

    • Key: SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\FeatureLockDown
    • Type: REG_DWORD
    • Value: bProtectedMode
    • Data: 00000000
    • Description: Your own comment here.

Example:
