Product Version: All (observed in 5.7 Update 6)

'VHD Utility has stopped working' error appears during ProU initialization.

Bad Microsoft patches released as a part of update MS14-045, or corrupted base image.

Possible Resolution:

1. Check Microsoft security bulletin MS14-045 and follow the instructions listed in that article. The recalled patches prevent proper function of vhd.exe.

Open the Programs and Features item in Control Panel, and then click View installed updates. Find and then uninstall any of the following updates that are currently installed:

· KB2982791

· KB2970228

· KB2975719

· KB2975331

2. If ProfileUnity is not installed in the base image, try installing it in the base image as a test.

3. If this does not work, review any updates to the image. You may need to roll those updates back as a test, or roll back to a previous backup/snapshot of the image.

Note: You can manually attempt to re-run vhd.exe from an elevated command prompt by running this command, substituting the appropriate share names:

"C:\Program Files\ProfileUnity\FlexApp\vhd.exe" /p "\\server\share\%username%\Portability\Profile-VHD\%username%-profile.vhd" /m "%userprofile%\Profile-VHD" /log "%temp%"
