ProfileUnity hangs during startup - Trust Providers



ProfileUnity “Hang” at logon. When a user logs in, the screen freezes right before ProfileUnity or just after the splash screen shows up on the screen.

In two observed cases the startup hanged on a LWL_userapp_trigger.exe


You can also find the following in elevation logs. 

Trust verification failed on path: C:\Program Files\ProfileUnity\client.exe Error: The revocation process could not continue - the certificate(s) could not be checked.


Possible Resolution(s):



ProfileUnity (PU)  validates the executables to make sure they were not hacked or hijacked by a hacker.

Because PU does elevation this process need to be in place to prevent any security breach.

When PU is failing, it appears to be failing during a certificate validation.


It is a CMS security guideline for .NET StrongName verification that is causing a problem.



The following key will have to be removed from that GPO configuration to fix this problem.


HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Trust Providers\Software Publishing
