Folder redirection migrations from existing Profile Management (UPM etc..) create duplicate folder on share

When migrating  folder redirection from existing Profile Management Application (Citrix UPM etc...) Profile Unity creates duplicate folders on destination share. Folder data from previous redirection has already been copied to the new location.



After Folders are redirected with Profile Unity, duplicate folders (My Documents, My Videos, My Picture, etc) are created on the share path. Profile Unity is not using existing folders.





This issue occurs because Microsoft Windows Desktop Operating Systems masks the Shell Folder from the true folder name. Opening a command prompt and running a "dir" shows the true folder names.





Modify your Folder Redirection rules in Profile Unity to match the correct DOS path.







NOTE: Your folder names will depend on the previous product used. Run a directory list command (dir) on the destination directory before configuring folder redirection rules.


NOTE: In most cases it is necessary to copy the data to a new share as other Profile Management applications will often lock the source directory from anything else mapping to it.


Update the configuration, and re-download the ini file to your netlogon/network share. Settings will take effect after users log off and the logon again.
