Unable To Create Temp Environment! Error On Logoff

When logging out of a VM that has the ProfileUnity GPOs applied to it, the machine never finishes the logoff process. No logs are generated. When logging into the VM via console, the following error appears:

Please check for duplicate:

LwL.ProfileUnity.Client.Logoff.exe in the GPO of the machine which is receiving this problem.  


This could be caused by local GP with global GPO. OR

This occurs when the ProfileUnity user and computer are in the same Active Directory OU and the ProfileUnity Group Policy is applied to that OU. User Group Policy loopback processing mode is enabled on that policy during a default deployment. See this Microsoft article for more information on loopback processing.

The solution is to move the users and computers into separate OUs, linking the ProfileUnity Group Policy to the new OU, or to disable Loopback Processing (Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Group Policy).
