Scenario:
Customers upgrading from AppSense EM (Environment Manger) to Liquidware Labs ProfileUnity with FlexApp find their user profiles are “locked-in” to the AppSense Personalization (Personalization) Server.
Prior to AppSense EM v8.6 customers’ profile data was kept in a proprietary data-store. Customers upgrading/migrating to ProfileUnity with FlexApp had to start over with new profiles. There was an export utility that did not seem to work very well and no customers reported success.
As of AppSense v8.6 and later it now has a new option to return profiles to native Windows locations where ProfileUnity can then seamlessly start managing users’ profiles.
Possible Resolution:
Export existing data from the Environment Manager Personalization database into user
profiles.
Configure Profile Migration to Export Profiles
User profile data is copied at logon from the database to the logged on user’s local profile.
To Accomplish:
1. Select a Personalization Group from the User Personalization navigation tree.
2. Select the Profile Migration tab.
3. Click Edit.
The User Profile Migration Settings dialog displays.
4. Select Export user settings back to their User Profile.
5. Click OK.
At the next user logon, the user profile from the Personalization Database will be copied from its proprietary format back into the user’s Windows Profile.
Install ProfileUnity with and implement a configuration template for the appropriate implementation, i.e. Win 7, 8.1 or other mixed environment).
Users’ profiles should start to be managed with ProfileUnity after a profile write point has been reached such as a Trigger or user logoff.
