When chrome is open and user is using "ProfileDisk" the Extensions don't show up and can't be added.

When starting Google Chrome:

When browsing extensions:

When trying to add extension (COULD_NOT_GET_TEMP_DIRECTORY ) Examples:

Possible Resolution(s):

This is a general problem with Google Chrome and unlettered mounted volumes.  Google makes the erroneous assumption that any volume without a drive letter is not a local disk, and Google Chrome is refusing to work properly with non-local disks.

The optimal resolution would be (Option 2) Mount a new VHD with a drive letter and redirect Chrome User Data directory to that VHD.

Option 1)

Edit chrome shortcut and change user data directory to a (A. Mapped drive or B. Mounted drive "to a letter" )

Example of syntax:

Only User Data:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--user-data-dir=X:\YourUserDataLocation"

Note: To change both User Data and Temp (cache) Folder:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" "--user-data-dir=X:\YourUserDataLocation" "--disk-cache-dir=X:\Your Temp Folder Location"

Option 2)

Step 1) Use ProfileUnity "Virtual Disk" Module and mount drive "G"

    • Description: ChromeUserData
    • Mount Location: Mount to Drive Letter
    • Drive Letter: G:
    • Virtual Disk Path: \\Server\Share\%username%\%username%.ChromeData.vhd

Step 2) Use ProfileUnity "Registry" Module to create 2 values:

Value 1) Set User Data Location:

      • Description: Set User Data Location
      • Key: Software\Policies\Google\Chrome
      • Type: REG_SZ
      • Value: UserDataDir
      • Data: G:\ChromeData

Value 2) Set Temp Cache Directory

      • Description: Set Chrome Cache Directoy
      • Key: Software\Policies\Google\Chrome
      • Type: REG_SZ
      • Value: DiskCacheDir
      • Data: C:\Temp

Note: The temp directory does not need to reside on ProfileDisk as it takes unnecessary disk space.
